Sony may no longer dominate the smartphone market, but the Japanese tech giant still makes some of the best smartphones, at least on the hardware front. Recently, the company unveiled the Xperia 1 VII, its latest flagship phone that combines tech from its Alpha cameras, Bravia displays and Walkman audio.
While Sony has been borrowing expertise from its Alpha camera and Bravia TV teams when it comes to the Xperia lineup, this time, the company seems to be also adding the Walkman department to the mix for a better audio experience.
The company has also improved the camera experience by adding an AI-based auto framing mode to the 48MP main sensor that recognises humans and keeps them in the center of the frame. However, one downside is that the video quality is limited to 1080p because of the camera cropping.
And while it does have the same 12MP telephoto lens with 3.5x to 7.1 continuous optical zoom like its predecessor, the Xperia 1 VII packs in a much improved 48MP ultrawide shooter.
On the audio front, Sony says the Xperia 1 VII now uses high-end components from modern Walkman audio players. As you would expect, the phone also supports AI based DSEE Ultimate upscaling, Hi-Res, LDAC, Dolby Atmos. The company also said that it has improved the stereo speakers by giving them a bass boost.
As for the display, the Sony Xperia 1 VII sports a 120Hz 6.5-inch OLED screen that is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The phone comes with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, which can be expanded using a microSD card slot.

The phone runs on Android 15 out of the box, with Sony still offering 4 Android updates. All of this is backed by a 5,000mAh battery that supports 30W wired and 15W wireless charging. The Sony Xperia 1 VII is currently available in the United Kingdom and Europe for £1,399 and £1,499 respectively, Rs 1,59,140, approximately.
