Japan has launched a satellite to monitor greenhouse gas emissions using its H-2A rocket. It marks the rocket’s final flight before being replaced by the H3, a more cost-competitive model. The rocket lifted off Sunday from the Tanegashima Space Center carrying the GOSAT-GW satellite. It will track carbon, methane, and other greenhouse gases as part of Japan’s climate change monitoring efforts. The launch had been delayed for several days due to electrical issues. Since its debut in 2001, the H-2A has completed 50 missions with near-perfect success.
