Google rolls out new features for its NotebookLM, which include several new public notebooks targeted for high school and college students, as well as new interactive features designed for active learning.
One of the additions is Flashcards: this function allows the user to turn research papers, work reports, or lecture notes into flashcards or study aids. The user can use these flashcards to help them commit essential dates, keywords, or fundamental ideas from their sources to memory.
Another feature is Quizzes, which are similar to the flashcard feature. NotebookLM can assess the user’s understanding by presenting AI-generated tests based on the user’s sources. Quizzes can be shared with other users via a link, and can be altered to change the themes and level of difficulty.
Google stated that one can learn more about a flashcard or quiz by clicking on the ‘explain’ option. For example, it can provide a summary that explains why users answered a quiz question incorrectly, and include a reference to their sources.
NotebookLM’s Reports function has been updated to incorporate a new Blog Post format in addition to the Study Guide and Briefing Doc. Report types can now be recommended by NotebookLM according on the topic, industry, or theme of the sources input.
They can “upload a draft of a short story and NotebookLM might suggest a character analysis or a detailed critique of the plot”, according to Google. By inputting a prompt, users can also generate their own report.
Additionally, a new option named Learning Guide has been built into the discussion section by the search giant. It may ask open-ended questions and assist in breaking down difficult topics step-by-step, much like a personal tutor. The Learning Guide will be available to all users starting next week.
