South African officials say a member of a research team at an isolated Antarctica base has been put under psychological evaluation after he allegedly assaulted and sexually harassed colleagues. The team is confined at the remote base for the next 13 months. A South African newspaper reported that a team member emailed authorities about the alleged assault and pleaded for help. Authorities say the man has “shown remorse and is willingly cooperative” and the allegations are being investigated. The next planned visit by a supply ship to the nine-member team is in December.
