Did Google just reveal its Gemini AI powered smart speaker? Here’s what we know | Technology News

At the Made by Google event, the tech giant unveiled the Pixel 10 series and also launched a bunch of other products like the Pixel Watch 4 and the Pixel Buds 2a. During the event, F1 driver Lando Norris was spotted talking to a minimalistic-looking smart speaker that isn’t part of the company’s Nest lineup.

Now, a new report by Android Headlines claims that Google forgot to remove the unannounced Gemini-AI-powered home speaker from the launch video and that it is indeed real.  The publication said that they also came across more images of what the speaker looks like and that it will be coming in four colourways – bright red, light green, black and porcelain.

From afar, Google’s Gemini-powered feature may be mistaken for a thicker version of the Apple HomePod Mini, but instead of a light on the top, it looks like the smart speaker will come with an Amazon Echo Dot-like light on the bottom part. The report goes on to say that it will light up when talking to Gemini and that the device has a fabric-like finish.

Gemini Live, the AI-powered feature that lets users chat with the chatbot in a natural conversational manner, is expected to make its way on Google’s much rumoured smart speaker. And like Nest devices, it will also let you set things like alarms, timers, detect unusual sounds, and detect if a smoke alarm is going off. Speculations also suggest that the smart speaker will be compatible with Matter devices.

A few days ago, Google announced Gemini for Homer, a more powerful AI-powered assistant that will replace the old trusty Google Assistant on Nest smart speakers and displays sometime later this year. Coming back to the Gemini-powered smart speaker, it is still unclear what Google will name it or when it will be available for purchase.
