Weird West FPS Soulslinger blasts out of Steam Early Access and it’s free to try

Soulslinger: Envoy of Death’s Weird West has got even weirder with this roguelite FPS’s full release. But whereas many Steam Early Access games raise their prices when they hit 1.0, Soulslinger is a pocket-pleasing 50% off and, even better, you can try it for free.

After a year and a half in Steam Early Access, Soulslinger: Envoy of Death is complete, adding an all-new realm and letting you face off against the game’s ultimate villain. This roguelite FPS takes the eerie atmosphere of Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare, and dials it up to 11.

As a ghostly gunslinger trapped in limbo, death is no escape, but at least you’ve got your soul. You’re taking on a soul-harvesting cartel and the cannon fodder you initially face are all that’s left when these villains are done with them. So you’re doing them a favor by blasting them to oblivion. Probably.

Each run makes you stronger, through a series of persistent upgrades. The new realm Trauma is described as “A brutal, atmospheric gauntlet designed to test everything you’ve learned so far,” so don’t feel too bad if you get your cowboy behind kicked the first time you reach it. Plus, the game’s fantastic soundtrack makes failure a little more palatable.

Soulslinger: Envoy of Death is normally priced at $17.99 / £14.99 but, to celebrate the game’s full release, it’s down to $8.99 /  £7.49. That’s only until May 1st, however, when it’ll go back up to full price. We tip our hats to developer Elder Games for not adding another $10 to the price. That’s often the case when games leave Steam Early Access, an incentive to get in on the ground floor and support it early.
