It’s been nearly two decades since TF2 launched, and it has stood the test of time, even receiving updates to this day. What’s most surprising, however, is that the Team Fortress 2 system requirements remain largely unchanged, to the point that you’ll struggle to find a laptop or PC that won’t run TF2 on the recommended specs.
You definitely won’t need one of the best gaming PCs from our buying guide to dive into one of the best old games of all time, and the Team Fortress 2 gameplay itself is still incredibly accessible, regardless of which of the nine classes you choose to play first. The game’s requirements remain incredibly low, which does make us wonder if Valve will overhaul the game at some point, as so many other modern titles do.
Here are the Team Fortress 2 system requirements in 2025:
Minimum | Recommended | |
OS | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 10 64-bit |
GPU | DirectX 8.1 support required | DirectX 9.0c support required |
CPU | 1.7GHz or better | Intel Pentium 4 / 3.0GHz or better |
RAM | 512MB | 1GB |
Storage | 15GB | 15GB |
Valve is somewhat vague on the specific hardware demands behind the Team Fortress 2 minimum requirements, but you’d only need a GPU from the early to mid-2000’s such as an Nvidia GeForce 3 Ti 200 or an integrated GPU, to get the game running. Graphics cards are less important than CPUs when it comes to performance in TF2, but even that isn’t much of a challenge, as you’ll only need a 1.7GHz processor or faster, like an old Intel Pentium 4 or AMD Athlon 64 CPU.
In terms of RAM, you barely need anything, with 512MB being enough to get you into the game. You actually need 2GB of RAM just to run Windows 10, so it’s incredibly unlikely that your PC or laptop won’t meet the TF2 RAM demands.
While TF2 doesn’t need the best gaming CPU from our buying guide (though it’ll certainly guarantee you the best possible performance), it does require a processor with a clock speed of at least 3.0GHz, such as an AMD Athlon II X4 640 or Intel Core 2 Duo E6850. The RAM demand doubles to a pitifully small 1GB, and the graphics card only needs to be DirectX 9.0c compatible or better, which defines just about every GPU released since 2010, to say the least.
The Team Fortress 2 download size poses just as little threat as the rest of its requirements, only needing 15GB of storage space. The best gaming SSD might help to reduce loading times, but it isn’t a hard requirement.
Team Fortress 2 is still getting regular updates, so make sure you check out the return of Team Fortress 2 classic, and the latest TF2 update.
