Project Silverfish is a brutal open world FPS that plays like a retro Stalker 2

Read Time:1 Minute, 37 Second

As games like Stalker 2 and Far Cry 6 prove, the FPS and an open world can be a match made in heaven. You may lose out on tightly-designed, bespoke encounters, but you can gain a tense unpredictability, the sense of systems converging on each other to horrifying and thrilling effect. The newly released Project Silverfish looks to be an example of just how exciting an open world FPS can be and you can try it right now.

In Project Silverfish, you’ll play as an explorer of an exclusion zone, much like Stalker 2. However, this is set in a world where humanity is long dead. You play as an anthropomorphic creature called “an inheritor,” wandering the zone for fame and fortune, and maybe to find the secrets of humanity’s extinction. You can pick from six different classes or roll your own build.

Like the best open world games, Project Silverfish has a myriad of mechanics which can crash into each other. Various factions all have a stake in the zone and you can join up with them to advance your own goals. Anomalies and mutants haunt the landscape, but powerful artifacts can be found in the zone’s most dangerous places. You can do whatever you want, but you’ll have to be careful if you want to survive.

You can buy Project Silverfish for $25.19 on Steam. You can also download the demo and give it a go right from the store page.
