One of 2025’s best RPGs just got a free tabletop version

Between Clair Obscur: Exposition 33, The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy, and Like a Dragon: Pirate Yazuka in Hawaii, 2025 has been a pretty good year for RPGs. But one of the very best might be Citizen Sleeper 2. It’s a melancholic, hopeful, and stressful spacefaring journey through a cyberpunk universe. Now, to celebrate the original game’s third anniversary, studio Jump Over The Age has released a free tabletop RPG. All you’ll need is the printed-out game document, 10 six-sided dice, and a pencil and eraser.

The solo tabletop game, called Spindlejack, follows a courier on the space station Far Spindle, a location from Citizen Sleeper 2. Similar to the video games, it is about working and routines. You take shifts to earn CRED and boost REP, zooming across the space station to deliver packages. But you’ll also need to manage your bike’s heat while you are on runs; if you overheat, you’ll fail your delivery. If your REP drops to a certain number, it’s game over. The game printout comes with a map to mark your travels and a grid to lay out encounters.

In other words, it’s a micro version of the tough decisions and resource management of the video games. Citizen Sleeper was such a breath of fresh air in part because it draws so much on its tabletop kin. If you’re curious about some of the best RPGs of recent years, this is a way to get a taste of its systems.
