Mixing Metro Exodus and The Long Dark, new FPS has 100,000 wishlists already

While many of us look forward to the warm days and sunshine of spring after a long winter, there’s still a lot of appeal to trudging through snow and withstanding the cold in a videogame. This certainly seems to be the case with upcoming survival FPS Frostrail, which blends the snowy landscapes of The Long Dark and the monster shooting and train travel of Metro Exodus. Though it was only revealed a week ago, the game’s premise and pedigree has attracted plenty of attention from Steam players, who have added it to their wishlists in huge numbers.

For those hearing of it for the first time, Frostrail can be described as a combination of FPS and survival game design. In it, players set out from the relative safety of an armored train and into an eternally frozen open world, either alone or in co-op. Once outside, they’re tasked with gathering the resources and equipment necessary to improve their loadout, upgrade the train, and stay alive in a winter landscape overrun by murderous monsters.

It also comes from FakeFish, the studio responsible for the FTL and Rimworld inspired Barotrauma, which similarly featured a grimy horror aesthetic and co-op action, and currently holds a 94% or ‘Very Positive’ rating on Steam through more than 50,000 user reviews.

Frostrail’s debut trailer and FakeFish’s reputation have garnered massive interest for the upcoming launch, a press release explaining that the game drummed up “more than 100,000 wishlists” in the span of just four days.
