Destiny 2 has been around for a long time now. First launched all the way back in 2017, the online FPS has become something of an institution in multiplayer videogames, despite ebbing and flowing enthusiasm for the game among its player base. Even as creator Bungie works on its upcoming remake of the classic Marathon, though, it doesn’t seem to be slowing down on supporting D2 in the near future. Just today, the studio showed off what’s coming in the next year of Destiny 2, including the announcement of two new expansions called The Edge of Fate and Renegades, due out very soon.
Before today, the future of Destiny 2 didn’t look especially bright. Toward the end of last year, the co-op game fell to a concerning concurrent player count of just under 34,000, with that number struggling to maintain a significant improvement since. D2 is about to get a big shot in the arm, though, now that Bungie has debuted its plans for the game’s near future.
We’ve just learned that the Year of Prophecy will start this summer through The Edge of Fate expansion. This DLC will mark the beginning of the new Fate Saga, set to play out over two expansions and major updates out this year and two more expansions, Shattered Cycle and The Alchemist, due out in summer and winter 2026 respectively.
The Edge of Fate expansion takes place on the planetoid Kepler and promises a heady, reality-bending storyline along with new abilities tied to the location and narrative. Renegades follows toward the end of this year, with clear inspiration pulled from Star Wars. In both expansions, and going forward, an array of Destiny 2 design elements will be overhauled or reworked to make it easier to jump directly into activities.
Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate comes out on July 15, 2025. Destiny 2: Renegades follows with a December 2, 2025 launch date. You can find more details on Destiny 2’s Steam page right here.
