Ready to live out your Fast and Furious fantasies? Tokyo Xtreme Racer, which puts you behind the wheel of up to fifty turbo-charged street racing cars, is out now in Steam Early Access. And while it’s been nearly twenty years since the last entry in the series, it’s earned an amazing 96% rating and driven right into Steam’s Top Sellers chart. Have you got the skills to dominate the sealed-off highways of a future Tokyo? There’s only one way to find out.

Tokyo Xtreme Racer is the latest entry in a racing game series that began back in 1999, though it’s been a good 18 years away since the last entry. The good news is that, going by its reception on Steam, it’s been well worth the wait. It’s been out all of a day, and it’s received 2,000 reviews, the vast majority of them positive.

And that’s not all. With nearly 15,000 concurrent players, Tokyo Xtreme Racer has hit Steam’s Top Sellers chart, roaring right past Path of Exile 2 and Marvel Rivals. That’s no small achievement for a game that’s been silent for this long, and given that it’s currently in Steam Early Access, things can only get better.

Unlike some driving games, Tokyo Xtreme Racer features actual real-world cars, most of which are beyond the budget of the average player. You can also customize your car to your heart’s content, but what really helps to set this racer apart is its SP system.

Like many a manga, or the Fast & the Furious, Tokyo Xtreme Racer leans heavily into the idea of rivals. In order to truly win, you have to crush your opponent. Your willpower, and that of your rival, is represented by Spirit Points, or SP.

Take an opponent on head-to-head in SP Battles, and you’ll both have SP energy bars. Your objective is to drain them of their energy to emerge victorious. Going by the reviews, that’s what Tokyo Xtreme Racer’s players are here for.
