How to cook the perfect boiled egg, according to science

Read Time:31 Second

Scientists say they’ve cracked the code for boiling the perfect egg. Making an ideal boiled egg is a challenge because the yolk cooks at a lower temperature than the whites. Researchers cooked hundreds of eggs and used math to tackle this challenge. Their final recipe recommends transferring eggs every 2 minutes between two bowls — one with boiling water and the other with lukewarm water — for 32 minutes. It’s easy to replicate at home, though the timing isn’t ideal with soaring egg prices in the United States from a bird flu outbreak. The research was published Thursday in the journal Communications Engineering.
