Terraria 1.4.5 adds a Palworld pet to eliminate the sandbox game’s dullest job

Read Time:3 Minute, 19 Second

Just when I started to think Terraria 1.4.5 couldn’t get any better, Re-Logic has once again proved me wrong with a glimpse of the upcoming Terraria Palworld crossover in its latest State of the Game for June 2025. The new blog from head of business strategy Ted ‘Loki’ Murphy gives an update on the progress towards launch, shows off a couple of new furniture sets we’ll get our hands on in the sandbox game’s next update, and unveils a Palworld pet that is about to transform one of the dullest bits of busywork forever.

To get it out of the way up front, there’s no Terraria 1.4.5 release date today. “Every day is one day closer, of course,” Murphy writes, “but we are trying to remain overly cautious and conservative in regards to giving out any timing. We do not want to repeat the mistake of giving out a timing window and then have things change and it not be accurate.

“So we must once again ask for your continued patience as we do the hard work that needs to be done in order to ensure a quality update for everyone.” Given that this might be the last update for such an iconic member of our best sandbox games, I’m happy to wait as long as it takes.

The good news is that there are some particularly strong spoilers. The most exciting by far is Re-Logic’s side of the Terraria Palworld crossover, which just landed in the Pocketpair game as part of a major new update. Murphy confirms that the other half of the collaboration “will be a part of Terraria 1.4.5,” and reveals, “We are working in secret to bring some of your favorite Pals to life in the world of Terraria.”

The first of these is Digtoise, the spinning, spiked-shell turtle, and it’s a total game changer. A short glimpse of it in action shows that Digtoise will carve three-block-wide tunnels directly through the earth, making it perfect whether you want to create a hellevator or just have it handle your basic mining busywork while you focus on gathering more valuable resources. It appears to be directed by single mouse clicks, making it pretty easy to fire and forget, and it gets the job done in short order as well.

Murphy muses, “What other Pals might appear? What other Palworld content might you see? Who knows?” That suggests that we’ll at least see more summonable Pals, and presumably they’ll all come with some other manner of useful skill. I’d love one that could generate water on command, such as a Pengullet, or perhaps one more suited to direct combat.

The other big thing to be seen in the new State of the Game blog are a pair of furniture sets. There’s the Hallowed Set, which combines crimson, gold, and pearlescent white to make one of the most regal options we’ve ever seen (and a nice contrast against the Obsidian Set from the Underworld). Or, for a more natural look, you could opt for the fairy-inspired Feywood Set.

That’s all for now, as Murphy reaffirms that the team is “trying our very best to narrow in on that elusive launch window.” I’m certainly feeling refreshed by the Palworld additions; whether or not the other inclusions match up to Digtoise, it’s already going to strip a ton of potential tunneling tedium out of my next playthrough.
