Eve Online’s survival game spinoff is free to play right now, but not for long

What’s better than a sandbox game? A sandbox game in space, a subgenre which No Man’s Sky, Elite Dangerous and more occupy. Now, Eve Online spin-off Eve Frontier is getting in on the action and while it’s still in its infancy, you can play this galaxy-spanning game for free for a limited time.

Eve Online has been around for a long time, launching back in 2003. So it’s understandable you might find hopping into a 20+ year old game, with some who’ve been playing it that long, a little daunting. That’s where MMO / sandbox game blend Eve Frontier comes in.

Eve Frontier is effectively a fresh start for Eve, as well as adding in some more survival-oriented elements. One such element is Smart Assemblies, which allow you to craft your own structures, such as portals, trading posts and more. The catch is that Eve Frontier is, as developer CCP puts it, a ‘shattered universe’, and resources can be seriously scarce.

If that sounds right up your street you can play Eve Frontier for free right now. Normally, you’d have to purchase an in-game pack priced at $39.99, $69.99 or $99.99 to gain admittance. But right now, you can register for nothing and play for free from today until Monday 7 July, 2025.

There is one thing to be aware of before soaring off into the stars, however. Eve Frontier uses blockchain technology to track its persistent world, and it also has a cryptocurrency, EVE Token ($EVE) as well as its non-crypto token LUX. This has caused quite a stir, but CCP has stuck to its guns.
