What is No Man’s Sky multiplayer?

No Man’s Sky multiplayer is an open-world experience where you can squad up with your friends to explore space or complete expeditions. At any given time, there can be 36 players in one ‘game’, though this doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll come across anyone on your travels – space is huge, after all.

However, you can bring three friends along with you to one party, which means you can see each other, interact, and explore to your heart’s content. Essentially, you continue to play the game as you normally would, but you might be better equipped to tackle some tougher planets as a team. Or, you can just nominate someone as a tribute in a sticky situation. Either way works.

Does No Man’s Sky have multiplayer on Nintendo Switch?

Yes, but only on the Nintendo Switch 2 version of No Man’s Sky. As part of the game’s overhaul for the original Switch successor, developer Hello Games is using the console’s hardware to deliver an experience more akin to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions. So yes, you can only play multiplayer if you own a Nintendo Switch 2.

On the original Nintendo Switch, players can play co-op together, but there isn’t any cross-play.
