Canada’s wildfire season is off to an intense start. A NASA satellite has recorded thousands of hot spots across the country — four times the usual number for this time of year. It’s the second most in the 14 years that the satellites have been transmitting data, according to Global Forest Watch. Only 2023 was higher, and that wound up being Canada’s worst wildfire year on record. The wildfires have forced evacuations in multiple provinces and sent smoke billowing into the U.S. Midwest and as far as Europe.
