Huawei is all set to unveil the new Pura 80 series alongside a suite of smart products on June 11 at 2:3PM (local time) in China. The Chinese phone maker recently shared a new teaser poster on Weibo showing two cameras, which suggests that the upcoming series will mostly focus on mobile photography.

The Huawei Pura 80 series is said to have four models – Standard, Pro, Pro Plus and Ultra. These phones will most likely be powered by Huawei’s in-house design Kirin 9020 chips and run on HarmonyOS 5 out of the box. Unlike previous versions, which had some Android code, the latest version of HarmonyOS is not based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) but can run some Android apps via a virtual machine.

At the launch of its Maextro S800 smart car launch event, He Gang accidentally revealed a Pura 80 series smartphone. Based on the camera design, it looks like the device was the Pura 80 Ultra. As it turns out, the Pura 80 series will carry over the triangular camera bump from its predecessor.

Talking of optics, the Pura 80 series is said to take smartphone photography to the next level. As you can see in the image, the Pura 80 phone will most likely sport a 50MP dual-periscope telephoto lens at the center of the module alongside an in-house developed SmartSens SC5A0CS 1-inch camera, which will be joined with a 2MP colour temperature sensor.

For those wondering, this won’t be the first time Huawei is going with a dual periscope unit. Five years ago, Huawei had used a similar camera setup for the P40 Pro Plus. However, the standard Pura 80 is said to have the same camera as its predecessor, but new AI enhancement might help improve the overall image quality.

Festive offer

While it is uncommon for most smartphone makers to start pre-orders for their upcoming devices without sharing the entire specifications, Huawei and Samsung have been doing it for some time now. Unsurprisingly, Huawei is said to open pre-orders for the Pura 80 series soon after the Dragon Boat Festival, which will end on June 2, with the handsets available later in July.
